Why Not Now?

April 15, 2016 § Leave a comment

The question isn’t whether you want or need the coaching.

You know you want  —

  • to be(even) more successful
  • to make the change
  • to transition successfully
  • to balance work and life
  • to balance work & philanthropy
  • to discover your passion
  • to discover your next passion and passion project
  • to feel confident
  • to feel confident in your role and decisions
  • to shut out the “noise” of the naysayers
  • to trust your instincts
  • to stop second guessing
  • to thrive
  • to have fun — and figure out what that is now

There are times I’ll hear people saying they want to (fill in the blank) ______ and they’ll do it someday, and I wonder ‘why not now?’

The answers to that question often holds the answers to the way forward to making someday today.

You don’t have to answer that question on your own. That’s part of the process I work with clients on. So again, I ask you

Why Not Now?

Why wait one more minute for your success, change, balance, happiness, passion? (fill in your blank)

Do it. You’ll be glad you did.

Enjoy the day your way,

Self Coaching Tips for the Holidays and Beyond

March 18, 2016 § Leave a comment

Well, the holiday/s  are soon upon us, (fill in your holiday of choice or spring break for the kids — or make up one of your own to celebrate you!) and as I always point out, even good things can bring up anxious thoughts and feelings. So you’re normal, it happens!
Here are a couple of self-coaching tips that might help that I contributed for A Leap of Faith Challengehttp://aleapoffaith.net/ a fun project by my sister Rachel Weingarten. It’s a really fun, inspirational, and informational month-long daily challenge to add new great perspectives into your life. Have fun!
Here are my thoughts and self coaching tips. Enjoy!

Part 1 is Beware Catastrophic Thinking with Coach Rebecca “Kiki” Weingarten  I speak a bit about catastrophic thinking, where it can work for your life, and where it can just cause unnecessary problems. (Public speaking is the #1 fear over death? What?)

http://aleapoffaith.net/2016/03/15/beware-catastrophic-thinking-with-rebecca-kiki-weingarten/

Part 2 Anxiety Begone or How to Coach Yourself through Catastrophic Thinking  I offer some tips and tricks for coaching yourself through if it should happen to happen to you. I also talk a bit about how I came to create and develop my unique interdisciplinary coaching methods and programs.
Hope this helps! If you have any specific questions please feel free to email or call.

Hi All,

I work on a lot of different issues with different groups of people. I’ve been working on some exciting issues with children and parents, including “Helping Children Fail Successfully”. I’ve reposted a 3 part series I wrote on the topic at http://dailylifecoaching4kids.blogspot.com/

What did you find the hardest thing about snapping back after a failure? How did you do it?

Should you swap long hours for less pay? My thoughts via BBC Capital

September 16, 2015 § Leave a comment

Should you swap long hours for less pay? The issue comes up often with clients, and we work through their options, their life circumstances, their needs, wishes, hopes & dreams. Each person comes to a decision that is right for them. I was happy to be included in this article “Should you swap long hours for less pay” in BBC.com that explored the issue. Here are a few of my thoughts, along with some other interesting viewpoints.

Have you ever swapped long hours for less pay? Why? How did it work out for you? I’d love to hear about your experiences.

Enjoy the day your way,

Rebecca Kiki

Big Change or Some Adjustments?

September 8, 2015 § Leave a comment

Back to work. Long weekends a distant memory until next summer. Some of you are excited about the energy that Fall brings. Then again, as is usual for this time of year, I’m hearing heavy sighs from some of you, louder growls from others, shouts or mutterings from others.

Many people put off thinking about their dissatisfaction with work, or their lives, during the summer. Fun, vacation, & free time take the pressure off some of the issues that take center stage during the rest of the year. Then….well, then. With less distractions, the old issues come flooding back. Sometimes it’s situational, and a result of that post-vacation letdown feeling.

The first thing to do is to take a step back and assess your current situation, and what’s going right. That gives you some energy to tackle the next step.

The next step is a bit more complicated and extensive. What do you want moving forward? And what steps can you take to make that happen? Sounds simple, but it’s not that easy to do.

When people ask me what coaching is, that’s pretty much my short answer to them. Sometimes a major change (and all that involves) is the next step. Sometimes a few small adjustments in lifestyle, work or hobbies can do the trick.

The questions you have are yours. You have your own unique wishes, ways of interacting with your world, and hopes for the future. You’re the one who must find a way discover the right path for yourself. Sometimes you need a sounding board, an objective other, someone who can articulate the mishmash of ideas, thoughts & feelings and help you turn it into a plan of action. Sometimes you can do it on your own.

Good luck. Appreciate what you do have right this second, and move on from there.

Rebecca Kiki

You Deserve a Trophy! Then Again, Maybe Not…

August 27, 2015 § Leave a comment

Hope all is well and you’re enjoying the last sweet moments of summer! Besides some much needed R&R it’s been a busy time for us as we shift gears to launch new projects & programs. In that vein I wanted to share an article I was quoted in, which appeared in the NY Times and dozens of national outlets. The article covers some of the education and self-development programs we’re working on, which are both timely and necessary and might be of interest to you. Here’s the link Column: James Harrison…

One slight clarification, I was slightly misquoted. I said that in business one must be prepared to see, and be able to handle some jostling/shoving and the slings and arrows that might come one’s way. I don’t advocate the behavior the way it’s stated there. It’s a topic I feel so strongly about, I’m so glad I got to share my thoughts on it. What about you? Any thoughts on the subject? I’d love to hear your opinion.

Please feel free to share the link with anyone you think might find it interesting.

Interested in a sneak peek of our new programs and launches? I’m happy to follow up with a more detailed email or jump on the phone for a quick conversation.

Wishing you a great Labor Day weekend (can you believe it’s almost here?), and an energizing and empowering Fall!

Enjoy the rest of the summer,
Rebecca Kiki

Flexible Work: Nice, if You Can Get It – NY Times

February 18, 2015 § Leave a comment

Interesting article with different viewpoints on flexible work and times. I work with clients who love the idea of flexible work and some that love the very structured schedules they have – even if they’re “overworking”. I think each person needs to do the work of figuring out what works best for them. No absolutes – not in the corporate world, entrepreneurial world or creative world. The article is worth a read.

Which do you prefer? Flex or very structured? Why?

National Handwriting Day. Keep Teaching Cursive + Send Someone A Letter

January 23, 2015 § Leave a comment

It’s National Handwriting Day and I got to thinking again about the controversy around cursive writing. I believe it should continue to be taught and practiced. As a matter of fact, I think we should start a movement to get people writing by hand every day.

I must confess that when I was teaching K-3 I hated teaching cursive writing. I loved writing by hand but for some reason it was one of the hardest things for me to teach. It was hard for me to learn how to write cursive when I was in 3rd grade but I loved relearning it in college. In my Education courses on how to teach handwriting, the professor made us get notebooks just like the kids would have and learn how to write the alphabet all over again. It was great fun the second time around and my handwriting changed completely.

It might be hard to learn and hard to teach but I think it’s such an important part of a child’s education. Besides the fine motor and cognitive skills the children learn there’s so much more that they learn. Focus, quiet concentration, discipline, attention to detail, personal style among others, slowness.  In our digital & fast moving world, writing by hand can also serve as a meditation of sorts. I remember the quiet, slow, concentration in the classroom when the children were practicing their cursive writing. They couldn’t rush through it.

Isn’t if fun to discover someone through their handwriting? Think of the difference between reading an email from someone and reading a handwritten letter from them. Seeing someone’s handwriting and experiencing the physical manifestation of their thoughts in their own handwriting is a different experience than reading them in digital form. We put voices and expression to digital missives but a person comes through in their handwriting in many ways that just aren’t there when we read them on our screens.

Children develop their own signature in so many ways when they learn how to write, and other children get to know them through their handwriting as well. The kids always knew who wrote a composition without even looking at the name at the top of the page. It was an extension of them, their essence put on the page.

I’ve recently started exchanging letters with a friend across the country who re-introduced me to the fun and joys of it. (Thanks Lisa!) Choosing your instruments, paper/card/pen, thoughtfully thinking about what you’ll write, sending it out and the fun of getting a handwritten letter yourself. It’s a completely different experience than sending & receiving emails.

So today, to celebrate National Handwriting Day why don’t you send someone a handwritten letter? They’ll love it. So will you.

Enjoy the day your way,

RK
